My friend who is in the residential swimming pool business says that he is often asked, “What is a saltwater pool?” So, I thought I would take a few minutes and try to answer that question for many of my visitors to my website. I know a few years back I also had to ask that same question.
Saltwater Pools Are an Alternative
A saltwater swimming pool is simply an alternative to the traditional swimming pool that homeowners treated with nasty chlorine and hydrochloric acid to maintain clarity and to keep algae out of it. A saltwater pool is maintained by adding pure salt to the pool and a unit called a “salt chlorine generator” converts the salt into chlorine. The water stays clear and will even feel “silkier”.
The water WILL NOT be like the ocean. The salinity will be about 1/10th that of the ocean. It is more like a tear drop. The salt taste is mild and actually somewhat enjoyable.
Saltwater pools have only been around since about 1972. The first system was made in New Zealand and was called the Aquatech IG450 Salt Chlorinator. Several new generations of the system have been designed and made.
Saltwater Pools Are a Growing Trend
Saltwater pools are the fastest growing trend in swimming pools. Nearly 80% of all new pools are using this new saltwater system. They are less costly and much easier to maintain. That why most hotels and water parks have made the switch. They are slightly more expensive to build, but these costs are off-set by lower long-term maintenance costs.
One problem with saltwater pools is that they can cause a lot of problems for people that use pool covers. Pool covers are often made up with hardware made out of steel and iron. As you can imagine, the salt in the water destroys this hardware pretty quickly.
Even Saltwater Pools Need a Safe Swimming Pool Fence System
New technology has changed the type of residential swimming pool system homeowners are installing. However, it has also changed the type of pool fence system homeowners are installing. And, Life Saver Of Houston stays right on top of that!
As an example on how Life Saver use the latest in technological innovations, take a look at the really strong, sturdy fence poles that the Life Saver fence is erected with. Watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BT2ioDOqXgA
